For government & the public sector

How do I give an answer that is correct and that everyone can use?

Answer by vragen.ai

An answer that is correct, with the source included

Umbrella bodies, knowledge institutes, associations and regulators have one thing in common: information is their product. People searching it get stuck on jargon, referrals or a phone queue. Vragen.ai answers right away, based on your own website and publications, in plain language, with the source included.

What exactly is vragen.ai?

Example answer by vragen.ai

vragen.ai lets visitors ask their question on your website and gives them a reliable answer straight from your own content, with the source included. You decide which sources the AI uses.

This is an example. The interactive widget could not load here, for instance because of a script blocker or a slow connection.

You are asking an AI assistant from vragen.ai. Answers come from our own content, with the source included. Why we mention this (Dutch)

These organizations already use vragen.ai

  • VNG
  • Vereniging van Rekenkamers
  • Gemeente Deurne
  • Nederlands Jeugdinstituut
  • VluchtelingenWerk Nederland
  • European Data Protection Board

Why would we put this in your hands?

Answer by vragen.ai

Your knowledge, your conversation

You publish what a general AI model does not have: knowledge that someone checked. Whoever builds up that knowledge should stay the owner of the conversation about it too. That is no longer a given. People increasingly put their question to a general AI service, and it answers with whatever sits somewhere on the web. Your publication may be in there, or it may not.

That is why we do not build vragen.ai as a chatbot, but as a Conversation Management System. In one place you decide which sources take part and which legislation counts. You set out what an answer looks like and which instructions apply. And you see what people really ask. That way the answer about your subject stays yours.

What do we need to arrange internally before this can go live?

Answer by vragen.ai

The frameworks in one place, and where we help

The AI Act raises a lot of questions, and so do the frameworks of your own sector. Below is how each part works, what belongs to your organization and what we supply. You do not have to figure this out on your own.

Risk classification under the AI Act
A system that informs falls under limited risk. Granting permits, subsidies or benefits automatically falls under high risk. Vragen.ai deliberately stays on the informing side: it gives answers and points the way. It makes no decisions about people. See Europa decentraal on the AI Act
AI literacy
The AI Act requires organizations to work on the AI knowledge of their own staff. We explain what vragen.ai does, where it stops and how you steer the answers.
What the regulators require
The ACM and the Dutch Data Protection Authority jointly named three requirements for AI chatbots. All three are covered. Someone can always reach a person, because vragen.ai refers people on. You decide which sources take part and how the assistant answers. And a notice under every widget tells the visitor they are talking to AI. See the joint opinion of the ACM and the Dutch Data Protection Authority, 2 October 2025
The Algorithm Register
Registration is not yet a legal requirement for government organizations. It is government policy and the obligation is being prepared. If you do register, we supply the data for the fields. See algoritmes.overheid.nl
The VNG AI Governance framework
If you work at a municipality, this is the instrument you will probably have to deal with. It gives process steps and roles for the municipality itself. There is no standard and no certification, so a supplier cannot “comply” with it. We supply the information you need to work through those steps. See aigovernance.vng.nl

Does your data protection officer or security officer have questions? The security page covers the hosting, the anonymization, the certifications and the outcome of the penetration test. The processing activities, sub-processors, retention periods and measures sit together in DPIA and processing register. If anything is left, ask us directly. Get in touch.

Does our data stay in the Netherlands, and do we stay independent?

Answer by vragen.ai

Staying independent, for the long term

The infrastructure and your data are in the Netherlands. If you choose an external language model, that runs within the EU. You decide which sources the tool uses and you test its behavior before it goes live.

ISO 27001 certified ISO 9001 certified

SWIS, the agency that builds and runs vragen.ai, holds these certifications.

Sovereignty is about more than the place where the servers stand. Can you still switch five years from now? We arrange the model underneath and keep it up to date, so you are not stuck with today's choice. If you are waiting for GPT-NL, that need not hold you back: your content, your instructions and your insights stay usable.

Where there is a shared standard, we join it. For municipalities, vragen.ai is registered as an initiative in the Common Ground portfolio, in the interaction layer. That portfolio makes initiatives visible and is not a quality mark.

Does it meet our accessibility requirements?

Answer by vragen.ai

Accessible by default, never an extra

About one in six Dutch adults has difficulty reading. Vragen.ai answers in plain language, based on your content, and is built on the requirements the government sets for its own channels.

Digital accessibility is a legal requirement for government: websites and web applications must meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. Vragen.ai is built to that standard.

Sources: DigiToegankelijk on what is required and the Decree on digital accessibility for government, with the Digital Government Act as its basis.

Literacy figure: PIAAC 2023, Kohnstamm Institute: 15.9% of 16- to 65-year-olds have low literacy.

What does this mean for our service desk?

Answer by vragen.ai

Let the website field the first question

Vragen.ai handles the frequently asked questions on the spot, so your first line keeps time for the work that really needs attention. Your people are still needed. In the inbox you see which questions keep coming back, so you can improve exactly where people get stuck.

You would not be the first. The Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) learned by doing what AI can mean for municipalities, with vragen.ai answering questions on its own website. The Dutch Association of Audit Offices works with vragen.ai too. The customer stories are in Dutch.

Can I see somewhere how this works?

Answer by vragen.ai

Here's how it could work: Postbus 42

To show what's possible, we built Postbus 42: the go-to desk for all your questions to the Dutch national government. Inspired by the old Postbus 51, with today's technology.

Every answer is based on the information from Rijksoverheid.nl, with the source included. This is how it should work, and we think it can. Postbus 42 is an example we set up ourselves, not an official government channel.

The Postbus 42 home page with the prompt "Vertel, wat wil je weten?" and the search field
Postbus 42 for real. You ask your question in your own words and get an answer from the information on Rijksoverheid.nl, with the source and a next step. The demo is in Dutch.

Ask it something yourself and see what comes out. Try Postbus 42
