AI site search

Our search finds nothing. Can AI fix that?

Answer by vragen.ai

AI site search understands what someone means

Someone types ‘can I visit without an appointment’ into your search box and gets zero results. The answer is on your website, just in different words. AI site search understands what the question is about and finds the right information anyway.

You can replace your current search function or put vragen.ai alongside it. Together we work out which one fits.

Why does our search find so little?

Answer by vragen.ai

Keywords match. Meaning does not.

Your editors write good pages. Visitors just don't find them, because they arrive with their own words. Four places where it goes wrong:

  • They use different words

Visitors search in their own language. Those words are rarely on your page verbatim.

  • They type a whole question

Keyword search was never built for that, so the question falls outside the match.

  • The answer sits in a PDF

Attachments and documents often stay outside your search index.

  • The answer is spread out

No single page is the whole answer, so no single result feels like the right one.

What your visitor notices is an empty results page. What you notice is the same question again over the phone.

So what can AI site search do?

Answer by vragen.ai

You don't lose a single feature

Filters, suggestions and facets all stay. They just work smarter, because the meaning of a question counts too. Your visitor doesn't need to know your vocabulary, and your editors decide which information takes priority.

  • Search on meaning

This is semantic search: synonyms, descriptions and typos no longer have to match the words on your page.

  • Help while they type

Suggestions from your own content, while someone is still typing.

  • You decide what comes first

Titles, tags and categories from your own CMS count towards the ranking.

  • Content that surfaces itself

Related articles, products or documents, found on meaning.

  • Filtering without losing the thread

Filters and facets on metadata work on top of semantic search.

We don't want generated text on our site. Is that possible?

Answer by vragen.ai

Semantic search only, without words from the AI

Then you put vragen.ai underneath as the search engine and leave the answer out. Your visitor gets an ordinary list of results, only ranked on what they meant. For organizations that want AI to do the searching, but want to keep the wording their own.

  • An ordinary list of results
  • No generated text on your site
  • Filters and facets keep working

Do we have to rip out our current search engine?

Answer by vragen.ai

You can also put it on top of what you have

With the Search Add-on you keep your search engine and put the AI answer above or between the results. That helps when a search project has just wrapped up, or when replacing it doesn't fit this year's plans. You start small and look further from there.

  • Your current search stays in place
  • You choose where the answer appears
  • Through an embed script or your tag manager

Which form fits us?

Answer by vragen.ai

The three forms side by side

The difference comes down to two choices. Does vragen.ai replace your current search engine? And does your visitor get a direct answer, or a list of search results?

More AI is not automatically better. If your current search engine works well and you want to keep it, the Add-on can be exactly enough.

Form Your current search engine Answer for the visitor
AI site search with an answer Replaced Yes, with visible sources
Semantic search only Replaced No, a list of results
Search Add-on Stays in place Yes, above your own results

Does anyone really hand their search over to AI?

Answer by vragen.ai

VluchtelingenWerk did it and sees the difference

All content was indexed again on its full contents instead of on titles and keywords. Visitors now ask a question and get a fitting answer instead of a list of links.

“It may sound scary to hand your search function over to AI. But what comes out now is something you could never organize by hand at this scale. This is a different way of working. Conversational, and ultimately much nicer for the user.”

How do we connect it?

Answer by vragen.ai

This doesn't have to be a project

If you work with Drupal or WordPress, the module handles the indexing and the searching. If you work with something else, it goes through the API or a script on the page where your search box lives.

  • Drupal

The module puts vragen.ai behind Search API, with facets, filters, multilingual content and PDFs.

  • WordPress

The plugin syncs your content and replaces the standard search with semantic search.

  • Another system

Through the API you pull search results and similar content into your own interface.

Can I see it somewhere first?

Answer by vragen.ai

From thousands of results to one answer

In 37 seconds you see what this page is about. Someone searches for ‘kinderbijslag’ (child benefit) and gets thousands of results. Then the same question goes into the search box in plain words, with an answer and the sources below it. The video is in Dutch.

Can I try it?

Answer by vragen.ai

See it on your own content

In a demo vragen.ai reads your site. You see right away what comes out of your own pages, and which form fits you.
