New in the admin environment: an assistant that looks at your screen with you

Every page of the admin environment now has a question bar at the bottom. The admin assistant reads the page you have open, shows you the way and fills in fields for you.

The page of the document Ontdekken in the admin environment (Dutch interface), with the Assistant side panel on the right. Asked “Was the content of this page read correctly?”, the assistant answers that the stored text matches the fetched page. Asked a follow-up about the metadata, it suggests filling in the Type field with Overview page, and asks whether it may do so.

There's a lot to configure in the vragen.ai admin environment: sources to crawl, agents with their own rules, search strategies, embeds for your website. Every field comes with an explanation, but you still need to know which field you're looking for. And which page it's on.

So from now on, every page has a question bar at the bottom. Type what you want to know or get done, and the admin assistant opens in a side panel next to the page. It sees the screen you have open and helps you from there.

Ask your question where you are

Click into the question bar and you'll see a few example questions that fit the page. On a document's page, for example, that's “Was the content of this page read correctly?”. On your conversations: “Which conversations got negative feedback this week?”. Click one or type your own. The / key opens the bar without the mouse.

The side panel moves the page over a little, so you can still see both. Go to another page and the conversation comes with you. A new question in the bar starts a new conversation; follow-up questions go in the panel.

It sees the same page you do

A general-purpose chatbot can tell you what a search strategy is. The admin assistant can tell you what your search strategy does. It reads the page you have open: the fields and what's in them, the explanations, the buttons and the tables.

That means you can ask about your own setup. “Explain in plain language how this agent behaves.” “Why do some documents from this source stay empty?” “Which rules contradict each other?” On the dashboard, ask “Is there anything that needs my attention?” and you get a short overview of what's going on in your account.

Ask where to change something, and it opens the right tab or section, scrolls to the field and highlights it.

From explaining to filling in

The assistant can also do some of the work. On a new agent, ask it to “Fill in the basics for an agent that answers questions about our products”, and it fills in the fields for you. On a source, say “Exclude search result pages from the crawl”, and it changes the setting. “Take me to the page where I add a source” works too.

Whatever it changed is highlighted on the page. If a change sits on a closed tab, that tab shows a dot. The assistant doesn't save anything unless you ask it to, so you check everything first. You watch, adjust where needed and save it yourself.

On a few pages it can do more, because the page gives it tools of its own. On an agent's Behavior tab, it writes new rules and tests them with questions your visitors actually asked. On the Analysis page, it sets up charts for you (“Add a chart with the response time”). The Improve rules with AI and Set up dashboard with AI buttons now open the assistant too, with your question already half filled in.

From a negative rating to a new rule. The assistant finds where the conversation got stuck and writes the rule; you add to it and save.

You stay in control

The assistant can write in your admin environment, so it works within the same limits you do.

  • It works on your behalf, in your own account. Everything it reads or changes goes through the page you have open, with your permissions. What you're not allowed to do, it can't do either.
  • It never sees passwords, API keys or the headers of an integration, and it can't fill them in.
  • You confirm deletions yourself. When a button asks for confirmation, as it does when you delete something, the assistant can't answer that question. It tells you what's being asked; you click confirm or cancel.
  • A conversation with the assistant contains the content of your account. That's why, within your organization, only the person who started it can read it back.

It also reads text that other people put in your account: visitor conversations, crawled pages. Sometimes that text contains something that looks like an instruction. The assistant is set up to treat such text as information, not as an instruction.

Built entirely with vragen.ai

The admin assistant runs entirely on vragen.ai, with exactly the parts you also find in your admin environment. We didn't buy another AI product for it or bolt one on. The assistant lives in its own vragen.ai account, just like your organization, and is made of four parts:

  1. An agent

The account has an agent with a description and rules. We configure it on the same pages where you configure your agents. If we want it to answer differently, we change a rule there.

  2. An embed

The side panel is an embed of that agent, loaded with the same embed code you put on your website. The question bar sends it a question the way a visitor does on your site.

  3. Website tools

What the assistant can read and do on a page comes from website tools (WebMCP): the technology a website uses to tell an AI what can be done on a page. Every page of the admin environment offers those tools, and your browser runs them on the page you have open. That's why the assistant always works with your permissions.

  4. A language model in the EU

It uses a model that runs in the EU, from the same list you choose from for your own agents.

We wrote about website tools before in What if a website adapted to you. There, an agent builds a page for the visitor. Here, it operates the page together with you. How to use website tools on your own site is in the docs under Agents and agent mode.

For us, this is the best test of our own product. Whatever the assistant finds hard in the admin environment, we notice first. And every improvement we make to agents or website tools for it also reaches the agents on your website. Want to see what such an agent can do on your own site? On Build your own case, vragen.ai uses the same technology to put a page together for you.

Try it yourself

Log in to your admin environment, press / and ask “What can I do on this page?”. Or ask on the dashboard “How fresh is the knowledge base?”.

Did the assistant get stuck somewhere, or help you with something you didn't expect? Email service@vragen.ai and we'll take it into account in what we build next. No account yet? Create a demo: you get your own environment with your website's content, and the question bar is there too.
