Developer
We have personally tested the standard frontend implementation of vragen.ai for accessibility. This ensures that organizations using vragen.ai through the standard integration start with a solid and accessible foundation. At SWIS, we have been actively working on digital accessibility for a long time. At least one developer in each development team is trained in WCAG. Additionally, accessibility is an integral part of our way of working. This step by vragen.ai fits well with that.
What does this mean for customers?
We have further improved the standard integration of vragen.ai to better comply with WCAG guidelines. This ensures that the foundation is accessible when you implement vragen.ai using the standard setup. Do you customize the styling or frontend, for instance, with colors or components? Then it is important to also consider the WCAG guidelines in those adjustments.
Improvements in this release
In this release, we have made the interface of vragen.ai more accessible in several ways. For example, we have improved keyboard accessibility. Elements that previously only responded to hover are now reachable via focus during keyboard navigation. Users can also provide complete feedback using the keyboard. At the same time, we ensure that invisible elements can no longer be selected with the tab key.
We have also expanded screen reader support. Buttons such as copy, regenerate, and rate now have clear text labels to better explain the possible actions with screen readers. During answer generation, we provide status updates via so-called ARIA live regions. This way, users can hear when vragen.ai is processing and when an answer is ready. Additionally, we link information from source elements to ARIA descriptions so that it is also read aloud.
Finally, we have improved the structure and navigation of the interface. We now use a logical heading structure without unnecessary H1 elements. Interactive elements have a clearly visible focus state, so users can always see where the keyboard focus is located.
Next step
The next step in this development is for screen readers to automatically read answers in the correct language. With this improvement, vragen.ai aligns even better with international guidelines for digital accessibility.
